We Love the Zoo! 06/05/08

On June 5th, the kids and I met our friends (the Lemonds) at the Memphis Zoo:) We arrived around 9:30 to start off what would end up being one terrific day! Together Amanda and I chauffered around the zoo a total of 5 kids. . .Drew(4 1/2). . .Karis(3 1/2). . .Kendall(2 1/2). . . Brayden (2). . .and Jack(6 mo)! Wow what a crew! Believe it or not the kids were really good and we had an awesome day! Some highlights of our day included lots of large cats in cat world. . . we even got to witness the mating of a pair of cats (glad the kids were unaware of what was going on)! Can you only imagine the questions? We had loads of fun checking out the monkeys, too! The new female gorillas had only been outside for all to see for three days. They were so cool to watch! The kids loved these guys too, especially when one of them smacked the glass window right where we were watching them!!! The polar bears were sooo big. . . we watched them for awhile from the under water room! What an interesting view. My favorite were the giant pandas!!! They are nocturnal animals, so we were not expecting much, but they both were awake. To our surprise the female (Ya-Ya) was reclined against a tree just enjoying a big pile of bamboo! We watched her for awhile. . . the male (Le-Le) was also awake! They were cleaning his habitat because apparently earlier that day he decided he no longer liked the type of bamboo he was eating. They were having to change out everything. They were amazing creatures to watch, and oh so cute!!! We spent roughly 6 hours at the zoo, leaving no stone unturned. We saw lions, and tigers, and bears OH MY! . . we also saw some "stinky" elephants, a family of giraffes, a sea lion show, many birds, kimodo dragons, the new butterfly exhibit, and the farm petting zoo. After a very long and very HOT day at the zoo we decided to let the kids put their feet in the large water fountains at the entrance to the zoo. Getting their toes wet would lead to another 45 minutes of playtime in the water and needless to say, their toes were not the only thing that got wet that afternoon. Finally the exhaustion kicked in and the kids were ready to head home! We said our goodbyes to the zoo, and to each other with the promise that we would come back again real soon! What a fun day at the zoo!!!
Karis, Kendall and Drew stopped to pose for a quick picture!

Kendall and Karis . . . what a pair!

Amanda saddled up all the kids for a ride on a plastic cow. . .they loved it! Yee Haw!
